Safe Behind bars

I was struck by the parallel life parents and child are living...

When needed, all are safely behind bars...

Totally dependent on their caretakers...

I will say, this little guy is right on track - sitting up on his own! Belly laughing at the cat and silly faces, moving forward on all fronts, in a positive direction... and, spends very little time in his crib :-) 6 months old!

And now my daughter is writing me 3-4 times a week, and each letter seems clearer.

Hope springs eternal

I am still digesting the depth of your blog. I have a son who's a drug addict, but your story-- so much drama and all too familiar.

My son is addicted to black tar heroin. He smokes it. The irony is that he's a Type I diabetic, but he says he cannot handle injecting things into his veins. One small miracle.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
You're amazing.

Debby - My daughter reportedly started out "snorting" a black tar heroin mixture known as "Cheese" - At first seemed isolated to the Dallas area, where we are:

Deadly $2 heroin targets teens:

DALLAS, Texas (CNN) -- A cheap, highly addictive drug known as "cheese heroin" has killed 21 teenagers in the Dallas area over the past two years, and authorities say they are hoping they can stop the fad before it spreads across the nation.

"Cheese heroin" is a blend of so-called black tar Mexican heroin and crushed over-the-counter medications that contain the antihistamine diphenhydramine, found in products such as Tylenol PM, police say. The sedative effects of the heroin and the nighttime sleep aids make for a deadly brew..."

I was a "low bottom" heroin addict myself for many many years, and I still can't understand how a woman can ditch her own damn baby for drugs... it makes me so angry and sad. My baby girl is 4 months old, I have been clean for one year (since I discovered my pregnancy), and I wouldn't trade ONE DAY with her for all the drugs in the world
